Kuzey Star Shipyard has taken a significant step in preserving ecological life. The officials at Kuzey Star Shipyard ensured the conservation of eight Pinna Nobilis found at their Yalova shipyard, a species that has become extinct in the Mediterranean region due to global warming. These fan mussels were collected from the shipyard and relocated to suitable habitats with the organization of the Environmental Directorate and Administrative Affairs Directorate, and with the support of faculty members from Istanbul University and the Yalova Sea Port Branch Directorate.
IMPORTANT FOR THE OVERALL HEALTH OF THE ECOSYSTEM
Fan mussels play a crucial role in marine ecosystems. They live in clean waters where sunlight penetrates and filter organic waste from the seawater, thus contributing to water cleanliness. Therefore, they are vital not only for their own species but also for the overall health of the marine ecosystem.
