Kuzey Star Shipyard Delivers Marshal Rokossovsky

Kuzey Star Shipyard Delivers Marshal Rokossovsky, the first of two LNG-powered Ro-Ro vessels constructed for Russia's FSUE Rosmorport company. Departing from Tuzla in early January 2022, Marshal Rokossovsky set sail towards Russia's Baltiysk Port and has now reached the Baltic Sea, where it will operate.

The 199-meter-long Marshal Rokossovsky is classified as Arc4 ice class and is equipped with two dual-fuel main engines running on LNG. Additionally, the vessel can also utilize low-sulfur diesel fuel. Ordered by FSUE Rosmorport, the ship was built through collaboration between Nevsky Shipyard LLC and Kuzey Star Shipyard, with design by SPb LLC. The vessel delivered by Kuzey Star Shipyard holds strategic significance for Russia as it will operate along the Ust-Luga-Baltic route. Marshal Rokossovsky also holds the distinction of being the first Ro-Ro vessel in Russia to operate with LNG. It is capable of transporting not only automobiles, trucks, and trailers but also railcars.

FSUE Rosmorport aims to strengthen its fleet by adding another Ro-Ro vessel with similar specifications, named General Chernyakhovsky, which is currently under construction at Kuzey Star Shipyard and is planned for delivery towards the end of this year. By adding these two new vessels to its fleet, FSUE Rosmorport intends to ease transportation in the Kaliningrad region and transfer some of the cargo traffic passing through neighboring countries to Russian territory.
